Have you ever been startled by a voice in your head that wasn’t yours, or hear music that nobody else hears? Or maybe you’ve experienced an internal monologue in your head about things you weren’t thinking about two minutes ago? Perhaps you heard a voice in your head that wasn’t yours alerting you to danger? This is clairaudience in action.
Clairaudience is the ability to hear things nobody else is hearing. It’s the ability to receive messages through auditory perception like sounds (music, onomatopoeia, etc.) or voices that are not physically present. Clairaudient messages are usually heard in the inner ear and are distinct and often distinguishable from our own voice.
However, there is a common, and sometimes confusing misconception when it comes clairaudience and receiving messages. This misconception is that one can only receive messages from a voice that is not our own. This is very misleading because more often than not we’ll receive clairaudient messages in our own voice, but the feelings of the messages will be different. In cases of keeping (or getting) you out of a dangerous situation you might hear clear, distinct voice that is not your own. When you hear another voice that is not your own, pay close attention and heed any warnings!
I remember the first time I heard a voice in my head that wasn’t mine. It was startling, abrupt and kept me out of trouble! I was in middle school and still adjusting to my new wake up time. I had slept through my alarm clock (again) and was awoken by a man calling my name. I jolted awake and sat straight up. I was genuinely freaked out! However, hearing that voice saved me from getting in trouble because not five minutes later my stepdad – and ride to school – was at my bedroom door making sure I was awake and getting ready to get out the door. While I would later learn that this was an uncommon occurrence, it was one that saved me from trouble.
